If a sudden death occurs, your first call should be to the local police station / the state’s Police Helpline numbers. Typically, the matter is then passed on to the State / Local Medical Examiner’s attention who will decide whether or not an autopsy is necessary to determine the cause of death. Once the police & the medical examiner complete the formalities, you are required to obtain the documentation to proceed further. Such documentation (signed & sealed papers) are mandatory for the mortal remains to be cremated/ buried.
